Slowly, slowly..

Wow, I'm really not terribly great at the whole blog thing am I? Admittedly at the moment I don't have much time to make cards, let alone blog about them, but I'd like to slowly get back into it.

I'm hoping to start a recycled card range in an attempt to be a bit more eco-friendly. And although this little guy isn't made on recycled card, this is what I imagine they'll look like.
I'm also wondering what the best avenue of getting them 'out there' is. Although I think Etsy is fabulous, I don't think it suits my purposes, so I'm thinking about trying local markets. Failing that, my friends and family will have to put up with them for years to come!

I'm really bad at this whole blog thing. Life seems to get in the way. I have made a few new cards recently though, including one for Thanksgiving and I'm wondering what you think? Yay or nay? Or just gobble gobble..

Badges and cards and etsy, oh my!

So, having made my first batch of badges (buttons for the US contingent), I decide that I should attempt to sell them to people (really, anyone! Grannies, children, agoraphobics.. heck, even rabbits if they can access a computer and have basic literacy skills) who might appreciate them or use them as decorations in one form or another (the pins could double as voodoo doll torture pieces if that's your thing. Otherwise they look just darling attached to a shawl or bag).. And being an avid card maker, I add these to my store and decide that Etsy is the place to open up shop. I'm not sure whether my wares aren't being seen, or whether no one wants them, but things are going s.l.o.w.l.y. I'm not disheartened though, my cards are selling like hotcakes in the offline world, so I figure it's a matter of time before the same thing happens online (pretty please, Sales God?).

Fast forward a few (20 or so) years and I've discovered how much fun making badges is again. I've been upcycling old atlases and encyclopaedias, as well as old calendars, making cute little keepsakes for people to buy. I did a yoga range for the girls at my local Bikram yoga studio (one of my other passions), which were received well too. Think I'll steer clear of the dinosaurs this time round though!

This masterpiece is the very first badge I made, at five years of age. In case you're struggling to figure out what it is, I'll help you - it's a Tyrannasaurus Rex. Of course, I hear you say, why didn't I see that? It's so obvious!

My love of art and craft has been a part of me for as long as I can remember. I always made cards for birthdays and Christmas, spent hours creating friendship bands and beaded jewellery, and coloured in anything with an outline. It's no wonder then, that I have returned to this magical world, although I hope I've come a little way in my badge making since the days of the indecipherable brown blob! These days I try to stick to upcycling pictures instead of drawing my own..
